Court conference

New York foreclosure settlement conferences

In many residential foreclosure cases, the court schedules a settlement conference involving the homeowner, the plaintiff and the court. The conference is intended to explore whether the case can be resolved.

Prepare for the conference

New York Courts advises homeowners to gather financial papers such as income information, expenses, mortgage statements, tax information and records of prior efforts to reach an agreement.

The case still requires attention

A conference does not mean other court obligations can be ignored. Review the summons, complaint, notices and any instructions from the court or an attorney.

A public-record review has limits

The docket can help identify conference dates and filings, but it cannot replace preparation, legal advice or attendance required by the court.

Information to gather

  • Conference date and location
  • Mortgage and servicer information
  • Income and expense documents
  • Prior modification or settlement communications
  • Questions for an attorney or housing counselor
Important: Foreclosure Case Review provides general information and reviews available public records. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. A request does not create an attorney-client relationship, file a court response or pause any deadline. For an urgent deadline, auction or court appearance, contact a New York-licensed attorney promptly.
